Spartans sweep Cumberland

VINELAND- Over the past weekend, the Dukes played a 3-game set vs. #1 NJCAAranked Northampton Community College Spartans. The Dukes fell in game 1 to the Spartans by a score of 13-9. Cumberland led for a good portion of this game, but could not avoid big innings by Northampton in the 4th and 7th inning. Offensively, Ty Powell led the Dukes with 3 hits and an RBI. James Decarlo and Chris Castro both had 2 hits. Four Dukes pitchers (Powell, Ambruster, Perez, Severa) combined to pitch 9 innings while giving up 7 earned runs. In game 2, the Spartans dominated from start to finish; winning game 2 14-4. Christian Rinick and Jon Cimino both had 2 hits in the contest. 

The conclusion of the series would be a tightly contest game. The Spartans edged the Dukes by a score of 5-4. Jimmy Kurtz, Jon Cimino, and Andrew Balindo would all have 2 hits. Donovan Gevers pitched 6 innings and gave up 4 earned runs. Cumberland will host Ocean County College on Tuesday at 3:30PM.
