Mens, Womens Cross Country off to strong start once again

Mens, Womens Cross Country off to strong start once again

A new crop of runners including a returning star have led RCSJ-Cumberland Cross Country thus far in the 2019 XC Season.

Starting off with the Dukes Invitational, sophomore star, Shyann Phelps, placed 4th with a time of 23:18.14. She would then follow that up with an impressive showing at Penn State Abington with a time of 25:21.1, good for first among all junior college runners and 20th overall. Phelps returns as one of the decorated runners in Region 19 as she placed in either the Top 10 or Top 5 of each meet a year ago.

On the men's side, they are led by Damien Grooms and Mekhi Troxler-Courtens. Grooms narrowly defeated his teammate at the Dukes Invitational with a time of 20:06.51 while Troxler-Courtens submitted a time of 20:08.32. The two were neck and neck in the home stretch, with Grooms lengthening his lead as their neared the finish line. At Penn State Abington, Troxler-Courtens placed 10th among junior college runners and 38th overall with a time of 34:04.7 while Grooms placed 15th among JC runners, 51st overall with a time of 36:01.7.

Head Coach Dave Sheridan was pleased with the start thus far and is excited for what is to come for Dukes Cross Country in 2019.
