Ridgeway, Phelps lead Dukes at Region XIX Championships

RCSJ-Cumberland entered the 2019 NJCAA Region XIX Championships with one of the stronger groups in recent years.  Led by sophomore Shyann Phelps, bolstered freshmen Javid Ridgeway and Mekhi Troxler-Courtens, the Dukes arrived in Delaware with momentum.  Veteran head coach, Dave Sheridan, knew he had a group that had the potential to run great times and that they did.

Ridgeway led the Dukes with a 7th place finish out of 81 runners with a time of 29:29, which place him on the All-Region Team.  Troxler-Courtens placed 20th with a 31:23 finish and teammates Damien Grooms (51st; 34:51) and Luis Vivar-Reyes (58th; 36:20) submitted strong times as well.

On the women's side, superstar Shyann Phelps, placed 13th with a time of 25:11.  This is the first time in weeks that Shyann placed outside of the top 10 as the sophomore star routinely finishes in the top 5.  Look for Phelps to bounce back at the NJCAA Nationals this coming weekend in Massachusetts.

NJCAA Nationals will take place at Stanley Park in Westfield, MA, which is roughly one hour north of Hartford, CT.
