Top Stories of 2017-2018: No. 2 - Loew named Male Athlete of the Year and 2018 Commencement Speaker

As one of the most decorated athletes to walk the campus of Cumberland County College, one might say that Joshua Loew's career as a student athlete would be tough to add to. On the Cross Country trail, Loew was simply impressive. In 2016, he was the first Duke runner to earn All-American honors while placing 8th at Nationals. Loew also earned 2nd-Team All Conference and ran the fifth fastest time in program history. He followed that up in 2017 by holding 4 of the 10 fastest times in program history including the fastest at 27:12.4.  Loew's made his presence known on campus during his tenure as a Duke, but it wasn't just his performance at Cross Country meets that put him in the spotlight. His abilities off the trail were just as impressive as on it.

The All-American runner was an integral part in the revival of the Agriculture & Horticulture club on campus and served as the club's secretary. Additionally, he was a member of the Student Senate, spending the 2017-2018 academic year serving as its co-chair. Lastly, Loew served as a state officer with the Future Farmers of America. In that role, Loew dedicated himself to making a positive difference in the lives of students through leadership, personal growth, and career success. When asked about his schedule at the time, Loew responded: "Being a state officer and cross country runner does get a little chaotic at times, but I am very passionate about both. Whether I am wearing my blue jacket for the FFA (displayed in the photo above), volunteering at campus activities or wearing my cross country uniform, I always strive to do my best and to inspire others to do great things.  Cross Country Head Coach Dave Sheridan added: "He is a very hard worker and team oriented. He will do whatever it takes to help the team out and is an inspirations to other members of our team. Josh in the kind of kid you want on your team. I wish I had ten Josh Loews".

To close out his impressive career, acquired two monumental awards this spring. In early April, Joshua Loew was voted by his peers to be the 2018 Student Commencement Speaker. An incredible honor, especially for a student-athlete. In May, he would be honored as the 2017-2018 Male Athlete of the Year at the annual Athletics Awards Banquet.

He will be taking his talents and his 3.8 GPA to Delaware Valley College this coming fall and we have no doubts that he will leave an indelible mark on ther campus just as he did at Cumberland.
