King, Smith named Dukes of the Week

VINELAND - After a brief pause due to the end of the soccer seasons, the Jimmy Williams Dukes of the Week Awards are back.  This week's winners are Sydney King (Women's Soccer/Women's Basketball) and Ronald Smith (Men's Basketball) due to their tremendous dedication to their teammates and the RCSJ-Cumberland community.

Sydney King - Cape May Tech - Woodbine, NJ

King is a two-sport star at RCSJ-Cumberland as she was a team captain for the Dukes Women's Soccer team and was recently named team captain for the Women's Basketball team as voted by the players and coaches.  Sydney, an education major from Woodbine, NJ, has exhibited the leadership qualities that personify what it means to be a Duke by coordinating workouts with teammates and leading the charge during drills in practice.  "She's a connector," JD Dijamco, Director of Athletics, said. "Alongside Paige Dooley, I'm not sure if we have a Women's Soccer season without Syd.  And with Women's Basketball around the corner, she's constantly in the gym and setting an example for her teammates."  For her leadership and dedication, King has been named Female Athlete of the Week.

Ronald Smith - Cumberland Regional HS - Bridgeton, NJ

As one of the handful returning players for Dukes Men's Basketball, Ron Smith has been tabbed as one of the players who the program needs to take on a leadership role.  Smith has led outside of the classroom and it came to fruition as he received the Peter A. Saulin Jr. Scholarship presented by the Freitag Family.  Smith has been a steady member of the Men's Basketball team and has been a reliable student in the classroom.  "Ron is always making his way up to the Athletic Office to study," JD Dijamco, Director of Athletics, said. "Ironically, he's one of the few student athletes where I wish he talked more! But he is extremely focused on being the best student he can be as well as the best athlete he can be.  He's a great person and I'm excited to see him grow as a person and player."  For his reliability and his willingness to grow, Smith has been named Male Athlete of the Week.
