The Colts of Middlesex County College had an answer for every run made by the Dukes, handing Cumberland an 82-70 loss. The Dukes were unable to overcome numerous runs by Middlesex, despite 34 points from freshman Markevis Johnson who shot 8 of 15 from beyond the arc for the afternoon.
Johnson's effort kept Cumberland within reach throughout the game, but it was the poor free-throw shooting that can be looked at as the deciding factor. The Dukes shot an abysmal 7 for 23 (30%) from the line, their worst percentage of the season. Seth Hackett was the only other Duke to reach double-figures in scoring with 11 points, adding 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals on the afternoon.
With the loss, Cumberland drops to 12-14 overall and 11-11 in Region 19 play. They will need to win one of the remaining two games to clinch a playoff spot. The first test will come Tuesday night against Rowan College at Gloucester County.
