Dukes Surge Past Bulldogs with Strong Second Half

Trailing at the break, the Dukes outscored Bergen CC by twenty points in the second half on their way to a 73-59 win.  Keying the second half surge was an unprecedented 28-3 run from visiting Cumberland.

The impressive stretch started after back to back three-point buckets from the Bulldogs' Doug Palmadessa put the Dukes in a 41-29 hole with just one minute gone in the second half.

The run covered ten and a half minutes of game play, starting with a Taj Berry-Ford free-throw and capped off by a Shaheed Black jump shot and a 57-44 Cumberland lead with just under nine minutes remaining. During that span, the Dukes held Bergen scoreless for two separate stints of 5:07 and 5:19.

Freshman Shaheed Black led the way for Cumberland with 24 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  The two sophomores from Millville, Khaliq Ford and Terron Mitchell, chipped in with 16 and 13 points respectively.  Mitchell added 6 rebounds and Ford dished out 6 assists.

After falling to Ocean CC Thursday night, the Dukes bounced back to claim their tenth victory of the season, improving their overall record to 10-7.  Cumberland has won five out of their last six contests and will look to make it six of seven when they host Camden County College next Tuesday night.
