Dukes fall short in Rowan College Derby

GLASSBORO,NJ- Under the lights on the campus of Rowan University, the Dukes and the Roadrunners of RCSJ battled it out for the annual Rowan College Derby. This neutral site matchup has taken place since the Fall of 2019. The Dukes mens soccer team was able to capture the South Jersey Shield in 2019, but have yet to bring the trophy back to the Cumberland Campus since then. The women's soccer team is still looking to earn their first South Jersey Shield.

The first game of the night took place at 5PM and saw the Dukes women's team face the Roadrunners (5-4). Gloucester would break the tie in 1st half with a goal to beat the Cumberland defenders. Dukes goalkeeper Lexi Cremin would shut the door the rest of the match. Cremin did not allow a goal in the 2nd half and recorded multiple saves throughout the night. The Dukes had chances on offense to tie the game but were unable to surpass the Gloucester defense. The Roadrunners would secure the South Jersey Shield with a 1-0 victory over Cumberland.

Next up, the men's teams would take the pitch for the night cap of the 2022 Rowan College Derby. The Roadrunners would jump ahead of the Dukes taking a slim 2-0 lead in halftime. Cumberland could not get into a rhythm on offense and would be shutout by the Gloucester defense. In the 2nd half, Gloucester would tack on 3 more goals and would win the game by a score of 5-0.

Men's soccer will play another match this week as they will travel to Lincroft, NJ to face the Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 4PM. For all updates on the Dukes, follow us on all social media platforms (GoRCDukes).
