Dukes drop season opener to Ocean County

TOMS RIVER- The 2023 Dukes soccer season officially kicked off this past Tuesday when the Dukes traveled North to face the Ocean County College Vikings. The contest would remain tied for the first 15 minutes of play before Ocean County broke the ice with a goal to take a 1-0 lead. Cumberland quickly responded with a goal of their own, courtesy of sophomore, Jesse MacFarland. 

After the MacFarland goal, the game would remain stalemate for the next 28 minutes of play. Ocean County would take a 2-1 lead into halftime with a last second goal before intermission. The Vikings would go on to score 4 more goals to down the Dukes 6-1. The last 2 goals scored by Ocean County were scored within the last 2 minutes of the game.
