Dukes women's basketball excited for fresh start in 2022

Dukes women's basketball excited for fresh start in 2022

VINELAND- After a three-year hiatus, the RCSJ- Cumberland women's basketball team is back! The resurgent Dukes are led by 1st-year head Coach Sgt. George Linen, who spent the over last decade as the head coach of Bridgeton High School girls' basketball team. Linen is looking forward to his first season as the head coach of the Dukes and believes that his team can compete right away.

Though the Dukes did not have a season in 2021, the team will have a few sophomores leading the charge this season. Two of those sophomores will be Meadow Avant and Sydney King. Avant comes from Gloucester City High School where she held down one of the guard positions and King is a 2-sport athlete that hails from Cape May County Technical High School. Also joining these sophomores is 2nd-year player/transfer from Rutgers University- Camden, Zhoei Travis. Travis was a Delsea High School graduate in 2021, where she played 4-years varsity for head coach Rob Briles. Another transfer that will join the Dukes in 2022 is Mikeyla Rivera. Rivera is a 2021 Vineland High School graduate before attending and playing basketball at Penn State University- Fayette. Both Travis and Rivera look to provide steady leadership for Cumberland.

The 2022 season will see 6 first-year Dukes. Those Freshman are as follows: Scotti Walker (Bridgeton HS), Desere Thompson (Bridgeton HS), Karly Jacobs (Buena HS), Julianna Wilson (Millville HS), Shanajah Williams (Millville HS), and Tatyana Chandler (Bridgeton HS). All of these student-athletes will have a chance to earn early playing time and make an immediate impact on the court for head coach George Linen.

The Dukes 2022-2023 schedule includes 13 home and 8 away games; with the home opener slated for 5PM on Thursday, November 3rd vs the visiting Essex County College Wolverines.
