Dukes fall just short against visiting Jersey Blues
VINELAND- Coming off a tough matchup vs. Essex County, the Dukes returned to the court on Thursday night to take on the visiting Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues. This matchup would see these two opponents going back and forth for all 4 quarters. Halfway through the 2nd quarter the Dukes held their largest lead of the game, 27-16. From this point, the Jersey Blues would go on a 21-4 run and lead the Dukes 37-31 going into halftime.
The 2nd half of the contest was controlled mainly by the Jersey Blues before the Dukes came roaring back. Going into the 4th quarter, the Jersey Blues led 54-44. Cumberland would go on a 14 -2 run to take a 58-56 lead with 3 minutes remaining in the game. The two teams would continue to exchange baskets until Brookdale took a 66-64 lead with 30 seconds left on the clock. The Jersey Blues would put together one more stop on defense to secure the 66-64 victory over Cumberland.
Nai'aijah Ball was the Dukes leading scorer on the night. Ball was also joined by Scottie Walker in a spectacular effort both offensively and defensively.
