Dukes/Roadrunners split the day for South Jersey Shield
GLASSBORO- The annual RCSJ Derby took place last night on the campus of Rowan University, and it was a competitive night for both RCSJ campuses. The derby kicked off with the men's game taking place at 4:30PM. The game would remain tied 0-0 for 83 minutes of play. The Roadrunners would score the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Gloucester would then score their 2nd goal 2 minutes later to secure a 2-0 victory. The Dukes overall record falls to 4-3 on the year. Cumberland will host Sussex County Community College on Saturday, September 23rd at 5PM.
The women's teams played their game at 7PM under the lights at Rowan University. The scoring came early and often for both teams. The Dukes took a commanding 2-0 lead with goals from Summer Nataska and Peyton Elwell. Gloucester would tie the game at 2-2 with back to back goals. Towards the end of the 2nd half, the Roadrunners would commit a handball penalty to give the Dukes a penalty kick. Kam Chisolm would find the back of the net to give the Dukes a 3-2 lead going into half. Taryn Richie would secure the win for the Dukes with a goal in the 2nd half to put the game at 4-2 in favor of Cumberland. The Dukes would finish the contest and capture their first South Jersey Shield since the tradition started in 2019. Next up, Cumberland will host Buck County College at 1PM this Saturday.
