Womens Soccer falls in District Championship
TOMS RIVER - On a bright sunny Saturday afternoon (November 2), the Dukes looked to avenge last season's defeat in the District Final by storming through the 2024 campaign to earn the 2-seed in the NJCAA East District Tournament and a first round bye. The Dukes would face the Ocean Vikings who they previously beat on October 10 which would lead the Dukes into the NJCAA National Polls for the first time in program history. Unfortunately, fortune would not favor Cumberland in the second meeting between these top programs.
After an early goal by Alana Del Rossi, Ocean would score with less than 15 minutes to go in the first half to even the score at 1. Cumberland would put forth an impressive defensive effort as the Ocean offense elevated their pressure. The defensive line of Del Rossi along with Jocelyn Rodriguez and Ayla Gomez would hold the Vikings for nearly the entirety of 45 minute half, but they would break through with under two minutes to go with the eventual game winning goal.
The Dukes 2024 season ended with a 10-6 record, the highest win total in program history.
