Cumberland Names New Cross Country Coach

Cumberland Names New Cross Country Coach

Coach David Sheridan takes over the helm of the Dukes Cross County program, bringing a wealth of coaching and running experience.  Over twenty five years of high school coaching, both cross country and track & field, throughout New Jersey and for the last ten years at Mt Pleasant High School in Wilmington, Delaware has provided Coach Sheridan with a wealth of knowledge and success. He has coached numerous league, sectional, and state champions throughout his coaching tenure on the high school level.

Besides his extensive coaching experience, Coach Sheridan has been an experienced and accomplished runner for many years. He was a two event high school record holder (880 and Mile) at Haverford High School in Havertown, Pa. While on track scholarship at Villanova University, running under the tutelage of James "Jumbo" Elliott, he specialized in the 800 meter run, while also competing in the mile, the steeplechase, and relay teams. He was a member of several IC4A and NCAA championship teams. He continued his running career after college, competing in cross country, track, and road races for several clubs, including the Philadelphia Pioneers and the Athletic Attic. He also competed in road races throughout the country and Caribbean while sponsored by the Etonic and Saucony running shoe companies.

Coach Sheridan looks forward to revitalizing the Dukes Mens and Womens Cross Country programs, while advocating personal improvement through dedication, discipline and hard work. These qualities will benefit our student athletes for years to come, both on and off the athletic fields. His years of experience and knowledge can help bring renewed success to the Cross Country program at Cumberland County College. He anticipates implementing a Track & Field team for 2014 -2015.
