NGWSD Highlight - Nayeli Garcia

Nayeli Garcia hails from Bridgeton, NJ and she has brought consistent production to the Cumberland County College Women's Cross Country team.  Looking back to her first year as a Duke, Garcia burst onto the scene with a strong top-15 finish in the Dukes Invitational.  Her 2017 would wrap up with an impressive 24th overall finish at the National Championship meet in Holyoke, MA.  Shifting to 2018, Garcia continued her consistency finishing either in the top 10 or top half of the field in each of her races.  The Cumberland community is thankful for her dedication and sacrifice and is proud to have her as a lifetime ambassador of Cumberland County College.

We caught up with Nayeli who just started up her Spring Semester and is currently carrying a 3.56 GPA.

Q1: Heading into your final semester, what are your plans once your graduate from CCC?

I plan to transfer, get my masters, and continue running

Q2: What would be the toughest part of being a student athlete? Did the difficulty of being a college student athlete surprise you?

The toughest part was trying to stay motivated while trying to balance school, work, and practice. This difficulty did surprise me because I've never had an issue with motivation when it came to running.

Q3: What was the most enjoyable part of running for Coach Sheridan and Coach West?

They made the team feel comfortable and we all joked around with each other so there was never a dull moment.

Q4: The XC Program was very successful during your time here, what will you remember most?

I will remember when it started pouring rain and by the end of our race we were all soaking wet, full of mud, and cold during our nationals meet.

Q5: To a student considering Cumberland County Athletics, what would you tell them?:

I would tell them to join. It's a fun experience and you make unforgettable memories. You also get to travel and see new places.
