Division II Del Tech sweeps Dukes
VINELAND- The RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes softball took on one of the best softball programs in Region 19 this past weekend. Division II Delaware Technical Community College traveled to South Jersey for a double header beginning at 12PM. The two teams squared off in a tight matchup in game 1 with the Dukes leading 3-2 until the top of the 6th inning. Delaware Tech was able to score 3-runs in the top of the 6th to take a 5-3 lead. Del Tech would add another run in the 7th inning and win game 1, 6-3. Anita Hassen and Olivia Powers both had 2 hits, while Bailey Pennino had 2 RBI's. Mollie Reece contributed the other RBI for Cumebrland. On the mound, Pennino threw all 7 innings; giving up 5 earned runs.
Game 2 would be dominated by Del Tech early, scoring 7 runs in the first 2 innings. They would go on to beat Cumberland by a score of 10-0. Madison Sloan and Lazaya Rosario had the only 2 hits of the game for the Dukes. Ashley Brag pitched 3.1 innings and gave up 6 earned runs.
The Dukes softball team looks to get back in the win column when they welcome in Region 19 foe, the Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues for a double header beginning at 12PM on Thursday, March 30th.
