Softball wins big, sweeps Ocean County
VINELAND - After a tough start to GSAC play, Cumberland Softball returned to form against the Vikings of Ocean County College. The Dukes came out swinging early led by Mollie Reece who went 3 for 3 in the 15-1 victory in game 1 of the doubleheader. Karly Smaniotto was dominant as the do-it-all freshman earned the win striking out 7 over 5 innings and walking zero. Ashley Brag, Sayde Nichols, and Bailey Pennino all racked up multiple RBIs while Madison Sloan, Jordan Spates, Abby Pino, and Angelina Figueroa also tallied at least 1 RBI in game 1. Anita Hassen, Olivia Powers, Pennino, and Reece all scored at least two runs or more.
Game 2 was much of the same for the Dukes. Ashley Brag earned the first win of her collegiate career as she went the distance only allowing two hits, one run, and striking out four. The Cumberland offense finished the day out strong racking up 17 team hits led by Karly Smaniotto, Mollie Reece, Sayde Nichols, Anita Hassen, Arianna Santiago, Bailey Pennino, and Olivia Powers each collecting at least two hits or more. Rosario drilled her first HR of her career and ended the day with 4 RBIs while Anita Hassen also hit her first HR of her career. The Dukes would earn a 14-1 victory in Game 2.
