Dukes softball earns split at Middlesex College
EDISON- The Dukes softball team played another competitive Region 19 opponent this past weekend when they traveled to Middlesex College for a 2- game set. In game 1 of the series vs. the Colts, Cumberland would come up just short losing the contest 9-8. A 7-run 5th inning for Middlesex would prove to be the difference in the game. Mollie Reece would lead the charge offensively in the 2nd inning with a 3-run homerun that would highlight a Dukes 6-run inning. Madison Sloan had 3 hits and 1 RBI while Karly Smaniotto and Angelina Figueroa added 2 hits apiece. Ashley Brag pitched 6 innings and gave up 7 earned runs.
Cumberland would bounce back in game 2 and win the game via mercy rule, 16-7. Mollie Reece would have another big game with 4 hits and 5 RBI's. Anita Hassen had 3 hits with 3 RBI's, and Madison Sloan had 2 hits and 5 RBI's. Lazaya Rosario and Arianna Santiago also had 2 hits a piece. Brag and Smaniotto combined to pitch 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs.
