Kaila Smith was named the head coach of the softball program in October of 2023.  The 2024 season will be her first season.

During the 2023 season, Coach Smith served as the lead assistant coach for the Dukes and oversaw the hitting and infielders. Cumberland’s offensive numbers improved dramatically under the coaching of Smith. While holding the position of lead assistant coach in 2023, Cumberland finished the season with a 20-19 record. The Dukes would advance to the Regional Championship game, due in big part to the addition of Smith to the coaching staff.  

Prior to Smith’s arrival at RCSJ-Cumberland, Smith attended and played Division I softball at Wagner College. In 4 years at Wagner (2017-2020), Coach Smith accumulated 99 hits, 16 doubles, 25 homeruns, and 87 RBI’s.   

Coach Smith attended Millville Highschool and was a Four-year varsity letter winner. Smith helped Millville to three divisions and conference championships. Smith currently holds the Millville Senior High School single season records for hits, RBI’s, home runs, and slugging percentage. The Daily Journal Player of the Year, Maxx Prep All-American, and South Jersey Player of the year in 2016. Coach Smith was also a four-year varsity letter winner in basketball.  

Kaila currently resides in Millville with her son, Hendrixx.
